Senior Film Critic and Arts Correspondent

Our client, a prominent cultural publication in St. Louis, Missouri, US , is seeking a talented and insightful Senior Film Critic and Arts Correspondent. This role requires a passionate individual with a keen eye for cinematic detail and a broad understanding of the arts landscape. You will be responsible for producing engaging and critically acclaimed reviews of films, as well as covering various artistic events and trends within the local and national arts scene. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional writing skills, a deep knowledge of film history and theory, and the ability to generate compelling content that resonates with a diverse audience. Responsibilities:
Write in-depth reviews and critical analyses of feature films, documentaries, and short films across various genres. Cover significant film festivals, industry events, and cultural happenings. Develop and pitch feature articles on film trends, directors, actors, and emerging cinematic movements. Engage with the local arts community, conducting interviews with artists, filmmakers, and cultural leaders. Contribute to broader arts coverage, including theater, visual arts, music, and literature, as needed. Maintain a consistent presence on social media platforms to engage with readers and promote content. Collaborate with editors to ensure content is accurate, engaging, and adheres to publication standards. Research and present on historical and contemporary issues within film and the arts. Cultivate relationships with publicists and industry professionals to secure access to screenings and interviews. Stay informed about evolving forms of media and storytelling.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Film Studies, English, Journalism, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in film criticism or arts journalism. Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and insightful critical analysis. Extensive knowledge of film history, theory, and contemporary cinema. Strong understanding of other art forms and their cultural significance. Proven ability to conduct compelling interviews and research effectively. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Proficiency in using content management systems and social media platforms.
